Capital Printing: Renewal of Capital’s of Multi-Functional Printers/Copiers (MFPs) fleet

This summer Capital University will continue our investment in the technology infrastructure to improve student learning and student experience as well as improve efficiency and cost effectiveness of business process for the University.  Beginning on May 29 and continuing through June 1, CapIT, in conjunction with our printing vendor, The Data House, will be installing and replacing almost half of our shared printers across the Bexley campus and Columbus campus. Using monthly printing statistics, gathered over the past year, a consolidated printing plan was developed that should accommodate Capital’s printing needs over the next five years.  All of these replacement MFPs will provide our students, faculty and staff with an improved printing experience that includes the following features and characteristics:

  • Faster printing
  • Reduction in printing related issues; (paper jams, toner issues, etc.)
  • Higher quality printing
  • Increased duty-cycles times, that reduces overall printer maintenance
  • Reduction in the square footage area that these new MFPs will need to occupy
  • Lower consumables and supplies costs

For student printers, students currently print to a global print queue that allows them to retrieve their print jobs at any student printer on the network.  Before the Fall 2018 term, students will be able to use their Capital ID to retrieve print jobs without going through additional authentication steps.

For faculty and staff printers, CapIT and The Data House personnel will remove the old printers and install the new printer to allow proper connection to the network.  This may require personnel to move or reposition furniture and/or supplies in your area to complete the proper printer installation.  Additionally, if the printer in your area is being replaced, (the current printer you normally use for printing your documents) you will have to logout off your computer, and log back in once the printer has been swapped to update the printer software on your computer.

If you have additional questions about the printer(s) in your area that will be replaced, please feel free to contact Terry Lahm for printers in Yochum, Renner, and CMC (tlahm@capital.edu) and Steve Terry for printers in all other buildings (sterry@capital.edu).  CapIT will provide additional communications about these updates during the week of May 29th.

As always, if you encounter any issues with printing after the replacement work has been completed, please contact the CapIT Helpdesk at (helpdesk@capital.edu) or at 614-236-6508.
